Rosie creates in theatre boxes, paintings, collages, photographic and digital images mysterious spaces where dramas are played out. Her work moves between the abstract and the figurative. She uses her own personal and family histories (living abroad in Russia, South America and the Indian Sub-Continent, and her family’s roots/routes in Russia), as emblems of fleeting lives that might pass and leave no trace. Rosie then constructs in time present objects that stubbornly strive to carry their voices into time future speaking of outside/inside, belonging/stranger, making one’s mark/leaving no trace, memento and memorial. There is always a joy in the materials used. The pleasure of paint, the glimmer of gold, the sharp delineations of graphic marks and mirrored forms; and the excitement of the push pull of the process, seeking to capture and hold these transient shadows. And oh, the wonders that can unfold when plan and happenstance meet.
